How much does landscaping cost in Dubai?

Most villa gardens in Dubai cost between AED 150 and AED 600 per square metre to landscape. Where you land in that range depends mostly on how much of the plot is paving, decking and structures rather than planting. For a 250 m² garden with no pool, one local guide’s worked example comes to about AED 65,000–75,000 all in.

Small jobs start lower. The same sources put an entry-level garden package at AED 15,000 and up, and a full design-and-build with hardscape, planting, irrigation and lighting at AED 40,000 and up. Add a pool, a large plot or custom structures and the total moves into six figures. Below is where each number comes from and which line items you can control.

What drives the price

Two gardens of the same size can differ by AED 100,000, and the gap almost always comes from a handful of decisions.

  • Hardscape versus planting. Soft landscaping (soil, beds, planting) runs about AED 50–100 per m², while hardscape such as paving, walls and decking runs about AED 150–300 per m² in Real Estate Club Dubai’s June 2026 guide. A garden that is mostly paved costs several times more than a planted one.
  • The lawn you choose. Natural turf is cheaper to lay and dearer to keep. Artificial grass is the reverse.
  • Irrigation. A few zoned drip lines cost far less than a full villa system with a controller and sensors.
  • Plot size and access. Narrow side gates and long carry distances add labour, and rock or poor soil adds excavation and replacement soil.
  • Structures and approvals. Pergolas, water features, boundary wall changes and irrigation mainlines need a Dubai Municipality NOC, and your community’s master developer will want to approve the plans too, according to the July 2026 guide. Ask whether fees sit inside the quote or on top. One 2026 landscaping guide says its rates exclude 5% VAT, municipality permit fees and site preparation, so check what any figure you see leaves out.
  • Who does the work. A registered company costs more per hour than a freelance crew, and gives you a contract, a warranty and someone to call back.

Cost breakdown by element

Published prices vary, so the table shows the spread between sources. All figures are in AED and were published in 2026 unless noted.

A few notes on the table. The sources disagree most on artificial grass, where the two guides overlap only between AED 80 and 120. An older Bayut guide from August 2024 gave AED 10–15 per m² for real grass plus about AED 1,500 for installation, far below the 2026 figures, which is a fair reminder that materials and labour have moved. The pergola figure is for a fixed unit and the source does not give its size. A large aluminium or louvred pergola over a seating area will cost well beyond it.

We could not find a published Dubai price for outdoor lighting or for mature trees and palms, and we would rather say so than guess. Both are easy to price once someone has seen the plot, so ask for them as separate lines in your quote.

What that looks like on three plot sizes

These are simple multiplications of the AED 150–600 per m² range, not quotes. A 100 m² garden works out at AED 15,000–60,000, which matches the AED 15,000 entry package. A 250 m² garden works out at AED 37,500–150,000, and the worked example above sits inside that at AED 65,000–75,000. A 500 m² plot works out at AED 75,000–300,000. Once a pool, a built-in kitchen or a large pergola joins the brief, the July guide’s turnkey bands for full villa design-and-build start at AED 300,000 and run past AED 1 million. Our own swimming pool cost guide covers the pool part of that bill.

Running costs after the build

Upkeep is where the sources disagree most. The June guide lists contracted garden maintenance at AED 800–3,500 per month, with AED 300–500 for a small villa garden and AED 1,000–3,000 for a large, heavily planted plot. The July guide quotes AED 200–600 per month, and ServiceMarket says basic upkeep starts at about AED 200 a month. A fair planning figure for a small to medium villa garden is AED 300–600 a month, rising with plot size and planting density.

Water is the cost people forget. The June guide estimates garden irrigation at 10–30 m³ a month. DEWA charges AED 7.70 per m³ for the first 27 m³, AED 8.80 up to 54 m³ and AED 10.12 above that, plus a fuel surcharge of about AED 1.10 per m³ and 5% VAT. A lawn that needs daily watering in July can push the bill up noticeably.

Ways to control cost

  • Shrink the lawn. Grass is the biggest water and upkeep item. Keep a smaller patch for children or pets and use gravel, native planting or paving elsewhere.
  • Use native, heat-tolerant plants. ServiceMarket names ghaf, sidr and Moringa peregrina as plants that cope with the heat on less water than exotic species.
  • Phase the work. Do irrigation, levels and paving first, since they are costly to redo. Plants, lighting and a pergola can follow when the budget allows.
  • Get the irrigation right once. A badly zoned system wastes water for years.
  • Combine trades. Paving, a deck and a pergola done under one contract avoid duplicated site setup and mean one party answers if something fails.

What to ask in a quote

  • Is the price per m² or a fixed total, and what area does it cover?
  • Does it include soil, levelling, waste removal and VAT?
  • Who applies for the municipality and developer approvals, and who pays the fees?
  • What is the irrigation specification, and is a controller included?
  • Are lighting, trees and water features priced as separate lines?
  • What warranty applies to plants, turf and structures, and who does the aftercare?

A design consultation is a good place to settle these before anyone prices the job, so every quote you collect covers the same scope.

Questions owners ask

What is the cheapest way to landscape a villa garden in Dubai?

Natural turf, simple planting beds and basic drip irrigation, with little or no paving. Published entry packages start around AED 15,000. The saving comes with higher water use and mowing, so it suits owners who want a low build cost and don’t mind the upkeep.

Is artificial grass cheaper than natural grass in Dubai?

Not to install. Natural turf is quoted at AED 35–80 per m² and artificial grass at AED 60–200 per m². Artificial grass uses almost no water, so over several years the gap narrows.

Do I need approval to build a pergola or water feature?

Usually yes. The July 2026 guide lists a Dubai Municipality NOC for pergolas, water features, pools and boundary wall changes, plus master developer approval. Rules differ between communities, so check yours before you order anything.

How much does garden maintenance cost per month?

Sources range from AED 200 to AED 3,500 a month. A small villa garden commonly falls around AED 300–600, and a large, heavily planted plot costs more. Water is billed separately by DEWA.

Can I landscape in stages?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Do the underground and structural work first, then add planting, lighting and shade later.
