Pergola Contractors in Dubai

Pergolas designed for Dubai sun and wind

A good pergola decides how much of your garden you actually use. In a Dubai summer, a patio with no cover sits empty from mid-morning until after sunset. With the right structure over it, the same patio works for breakfast, for the kids after school and for dinner outside through most of the year.

Exterior Space Landscape Works designs and builds pergolas for villas across Dubai: over a seating area, beside an outdoor kitchen, along the edge of a pool or against the back of the house. We start from where the sun and wind hit your plot, then size the structure and match it to the villa.

This page covers the pergola itself. If you are also planning decking, lighting and planting, see our outdoor living spaces page for the full backyard.

What we build

Aluminium pergolas

Powder-coated aluminium frames with fixed slats or adjustable louvres. The usual choice for villas because it needs very little upkeep.

Timber pergolas

Treated timber beams for a warmer, more natural look. Works well in planted gardens and needs regular sealing.

Tensile and fabric shades

Stretched fabric on steel or aluminium posts. Light, and good for covering large or odd-shaped areas.

Pergolas with lighting and power

Downlights, strip lights and sockets planned into the frame, so the cables stay out of sight.

Materials and Dubai conditions

Heat. Metal and dark finishes get hot in direct sun. Light colours with a powder-coat finish are more comfortable to touch, and slatted or louvred roofs let hot air escape instead of trapping it.

Sun and UV. Timber greys and cracks without a UV-resistant sealant, and fabric fades over the years. Aluminium holds its colour best.

Humidity and salt. Close to the sea, in areas like Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina and Umm Suqeim, salty air attacks bare steel fixings. Stainless or coated fixings and a marine-grade powder coat are the sensible choice there.

Dust. Sand and dust settle on louvres and fabric. A rinse with a hose every few weeks keeps them clean.

Wind. A pergola roof acts like a sail. The posts need proper foundations, or a fixing into the villa structure, sized for the span and the roof type.

Pergolas next to pools

A pergola by the pool needs a few things worked out early. The posts have to sit clear of the coping and the waterline, and the foundations must not cut into the pool’s waterproofing or pipework. Rain and washing water should drain away from the pool, not into it. Leave room to reach the pump, the filter and the cleaning equipment.

Most owners shade the lounging and dining side and leave the water itself in the open. Lighting under the pergola can double as pool-side lighting in the evening.

If the pool is still to be built, we plan the two together so the structure and the pool equipment do not fight for the same space. See our swimming pool construction page for the pool side of that, or pool renovation if the pool already exists.

How a pergola project runs

1

Site visit and design

We measure the plot, check where the sun falls and agree the position, size and style.
2

3D render

You see the pergola on your own plot before any material is ordered, and can change it while changes are easy.
3

Build

Foundations, frame, roof and electrics, then finishing and cleanup.
4

Handover

We walk through the finished pergola with you and explain how to look after it.

Pergola questions

In most master communities, yes. The developer or community manager usually wants drawings before you build, and some limit the height, size and materials you can use. Municipality rules can apply as well, depending on the structure. Ask your community management early, because the answer shapes the design. The drawings and 3D render from the design stage are what you would submit.

Powder-coated aluminium does not rot, warp or attract termites, and it needs little more than a wash. Timber looks warmer and suits planted gardens, but in full sun it needs sealing and re-oiling regularly, at least once a year, to stop it greying and splitting. Most owners who want low upkeep choose aluminium. Those who want the timber look accept the maintenance.

Either can work. An attached pergola shades the back wall and the doors, but the villa structure has to carry the load and the join must be sealed against water. A freestanding pergola has its own posts and foundations and can sit anywhere, for example beside the pool or around an outdoor kitchen. We confirm which is possible on the site visit.

Rain in Dubai is rare but heavy. A fixed solid roof keeps it out. Slatted roofs give shade but let rain through, and adjustable louvres can be closed to shed it. Whatever roof you choose, the water needs a fall and somewhere to drain.

Yes. Downlights, strip lights and sockets can run through the frame, so the cables are hidden. It is much easier to plan this at the design stage than to add it later, when cables end up on show.

It depends on the size, the material and the roof type, so we price after a site visit and design. A flat rate quoted without seeing the plot would not be reliable. Call or WhatsApp +971 50 660 2296 to book a visit.
